An Overview of Cabbages and Roses

Cabbages and Roses is a family-run business based in Somerset. The company designs clothing, accessories, printed fabrics, and home products that reflect a distinctive British style. Alongside its flagship store in Bruton, the business sells online to both retail customers and trade fabric merchants across the UK and internationally.

When the company approached us, their online store was running on Magento 1.9. The platform had reached the end of its lifecycle and had begun to create security problems. The checkout page had been compromised through a payment gateway vulnerability, exposing the site to fraud risks.

Beyond the security concerns, the ageing platform limited the store’s ability to evolve. The business needed a stable, secure foundation that could support its online operations for the long term.

Malware Removal

Before the migration could proceed, the compromised installation needed attention. Our developers reviewed the codebase, identified malicious scripts, and removed the malware affecting the platform.

Security Patch & Platform Integrations

To protect the site during the migration period, we applied Magento security patches. This ensured the store remained operational and secure while the new platform was prepared. Our Approach

The objective was straightforward. The platform needed to be secured quickly and rebuilt on a stable foundation without disrupting the business.

Requirements

The existing Magento 1 platform was outdated and vulnerable. Security issues had already begun affecting the checkout process, creating risk for both the company and its customers. Cabbages and Roses needed a migration plan that would secure the site while allowing day-to-day trading to continue.

Solution

Our team first stabilised the existing installation. We worked on a copy of the site’s codebase to identify and remove malicious scripts and ensure the platform was clean before proceeding. Security patches were applied to protect the live environment during the migration. Once the platform was stabilised, we carried out a structured migration to Magento 2 and configured the new integrations and functionality required by the business.
